Walk the Torch To London!

At the start of term 3, our whole school began a long journey to "Walk the Torch to London".
You may have noticed that your children were asking to walk, cycle, scooter or part walk to school more often!!
This was an intiative from Travelwise.
It has been a fun thing to participate in and has encouraged more children to come to school in a Travelwise way.

For every morning and afternoon that children came to school in a Travelwise way (walking, cycling, scootering or parking and walking), they recieved 1 point.
If they came to or from school in a Travelwise way on a rainy day, then they received 2 points. To reach London, we needed a total of 300 points.

Our points started to build up quickly and on Thursday morning of week 2, Room 8 made it to London!

We are continuing our journey in Room 8 - we want to see if we can get up to 550 points before next Friday!

We went and had a photo taken with some of the junior classes that also made it to London in time - keep a look out for our picture in the Western Leader!

Summing up term 2...

We had a really good term 2... We learnt lots with our topic "transformation".
We had a fantasitc book week with lots of fun activities, we went on an awesome trip to Ambury Farm, and we made some really cool art that is either up in the classroom or at home!
We are looking forward to term 3 and all that we will do and learn!

Now that we are getting sorted with the blog we will put things up more often during term 3! It will be great to learn how to do it and to keep sharing with you what we are getting up to!

We will be learning about "achievement" during term 3 and we will be doing lots of work to do with the Olympics so keep watching this space! :)

Planting Pohutukawa trees!

Earlier this year we planted some Pohutukawa trees along the far edge of our field. We had to plan where they would go best and how far apart to plant them.
On planting day we got everything we needed and went to dig some holes! It was a lof of fun, very hard work and the end result was great!

Getting insturctions from Mr Whittaker before starting.

Essendon got stuck in with the digging!

It was good to get stuck in and work together as a team.

 Working hard!

The end result is pretty amazing. Come on down to the school and check out how they are going now!

Ambury Farm Trip - Term 2

During term 2 we went on a trip to Ambury Farm... It was such a fun day!
We learnt how to make twine, card wool, make felt and learnt lots about different fibres.

Waiting to walk out to the bus... We are all very excited!

We had a fibre talk and then we did an activity where we had to match fibres to the pictures of where they came from. Some were very tricky!

We hunted in the paddock for the sheep that had just been shawn... (we did find him although he is not in this picture!)

We had so much fun walking around the farm getting to pat the animals. They were friendly (most of them!) and if they didn't want to be touched and they walked away then that was ok!

Making felt was lots of fun - there were lots of steps to do but we all managed and we all ended up with our very own piece of felt!

We looked at different fibres through maginyfing glasses, it was very interesting to look at fibres that closely.

We worked with a buddy to turn some carded wool into a piece of twine... It was very tricky to do but some people were able to make their twine work!
A very fun day indeed... We highly recommend going to Ambury Farm yourself!
